Mochilla Mix Cds

Im probably a little late with this one as some of these have been out for a minute but hey these are the goodness.
Most of you probably already know all about Mochilla, photographer B+ and Eric Coleman's label that brought you the Keep In Time dvd that dropped a few years back. Mochilla which is spanish for backpack has been busy lately and dropped a bunch of mix cds. They cover a vast array of music from Brazilian to Disco to Funk to Hip Hop to Nu Soul and future beats. These mixes use hip hop aesthetics to really push the boundaries of music and force it into the future. Something that is good to see as so many heads seem to be stuck in the past.
Mixes are by J-Rocc, B+, Coleman, Madlib, Ras G, Kutmah, Brazil's own Dj Nuts and Shafiq Husayn from SA-R. The are floating around the net so grab them have a listen and then go and support Mochilla by buying them.

Alton Ellis Breaking Up

This is probably one of my favorite Alton Ellis songs ever. Big call i know, But if ever Im feeling a little down i can put this on the turntable and my mood is lifted straight away. Treasure Ilse was started by Duke Reid in the mid 60's and was also the name of his radio show Treasure Isle Time. This label and Reid was responsible for many classic tunes to come out of Jamaica.

Beyonce Work It Out

Im not completely sure what the story is with this funk driven reworking of Beyonce's Work It Out. Speedometer (Can you tell their obsessed with the Meters? ) had released a cover of the song in 2002 on Freestyle records and the music sounds suspiciously like it was lifted from this session. All Slipped discs records seem to have done is add the Beyonce accapella and press it up. Whatever the story what you have is a delicious slice of drum heavy funk and how the original should have sounded. Its all about the drums people !
