Sky's The Limit

Life can be so hectic sometimes you need a time out. You need to sit down and focus on what is really important. This track is a timeout for you. Raphael Saadiq as reworked by Yam Who. its one of my favorite Yam remixes and there's a few. Yam really excels when he's reworking soul tracks. Sit back put the headphones on, think about that special someone and relax.

Money Is King

Im not sure what it says about the state of music today when my favorite records all sound like they should have come out back in 1976. All that aside the guys from Truth and Soul Records and Lee Fields have put together a truly amazing release which hasn't left my turntable in weeks. Leon Michels and the Expressions lay down a mix of music that is funky, soulful and raw enough to provide the perfect backing for Lee's vocals.

Brooklyn All Day

So i've been on this huge Richard Price binge lately. For those that don't know he was the man that wrote the novel Clockers that Spike Lee turned into a movie. If you get a chance please check out any Richard Price novels you find he's truly a gifted writer. This track is produced by DJ Premier for the soundtrack to Clockers features Chubb Rock, OC and Jeru. It pretty much is Timeless.

Sweet Thing

Okay time for some Leroy Burgees. This Convertion song came out in 83 and is pretty much a family affair with the group consisting of his brother and cousins. Awesome slice of electro funk.

Zeb Hear My Cry Remix

I've been going through my collection over the last few days ripping a bunch of 12"s that i have decided that i can live with only having digital copies of. I simply need the money and room that offloading a few crates will give me. And of course over time your taste changes and i think its good to spring clean your collection every now and then.
While sorting through i found this Mawglee 12" on bastard jazz from 2005. I was buying heaps of breaks records around then. However the last track on the EP is a remix by Wonder-wheel's Zeb and is nice dub reworking of one of the original tracks entitled Sofa. I've been on a massive dub tip lately and its nice to hear a modern version of a track. Check it out.

Fat Freddy's Drop

Unless you've been living under a rock you'd know that Fat Freddy's Drop has released their second studio album. Entitled Dr Boondigga and the big BW, It takes a slightly more electronic direction than their last effort. Still drenched in dub, reverb and echo effects, The band's song writing ability and musicianship has matured and taken them to new heights. Pick this up and if you ever get the chance go along and witness their amazing live show.

Dam Funk

Here's a small taste of the five part Lp LA's Dam Funk is putting out on Stonesthrow Records. I have almost everything he's put out to date. This is a must cop. Sexy cosmic funk for the masses. Dam's on some Moodymann tip on this track. You need this in your life.

Michael Jackson RIP

Tribute to Michael Jackson by Peanut Butter Wolf. Part two of three. RIP to one of the last true entertainers of our time. Someone who made it for his amazing voice and dancing moves and not because he had a bunch of marketing hype.
Check out the other parts on Youtube and also DJ Premiers tribute mix.
